Who are the Legacy West Pioneers?
Legacy West Pioneers, formerly CenturyLink Pioneers, are part of the International Pioneers, Pioneersvolunteer.org, the largest industry related volunteer organization in the world, with chapters located throughout the United States and Canada. As a group of concerned employees and retirees, Legacy West (CenturyLink) Pioneers dedicate their time and talents to worthwhile community service projects throughout the region served by Century Link Communications. This includes Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Iowa, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. Employees are eligible to become a Pioneer on the day they join CenturyLink.
The Pioneers work on projects that directly support the communities where they live and work. Pioneer projects range from education, to health care, from assisting the disabled to helping homeless and veterans. The projects are designed to meet the needs of the community and the interest of the Pioneers and their families. The Legacy West Pioneers contribute over a million hours of service each year, leaving the legacy of service in their wake. The cost to join this organization is $22.00 per year. The dues support Pioneer efforts and projects.
Below are some examples of the exemplary contributions made by many of our clubs.
- Ronald McDonald House – we collect soda tabs to donate and host dinners for families staying there.
- Hug a bears – Pioneers make them and donate them to police, fire and ambulance companies.
- Mentoring at elementary schools
- Pioneers make lap robes and donate them to senior centers as well as donate miscellaneous other items
- Contribute time and monies to the local Food Bank
- Provide scholarships to high school seniors or current college students Donate school supplies to under served schools
- Donate socks and underwear to schools
- Support Blind schools with a Beeping Easter Egg Hunt event – Build and sell/distribute beeping baseballs and eggs
- Pioneers support the Talking Book Program for the visually impaired. This program has been supported by the Pioneers for over 50 years of maintaining the equipment, reading to record books, and doing outreach into the community.
- Volunteer and staff a booth to showcase Pioneer activities and raise funds.
- Handi-dogs- we provided financial support and have donated equipment – Christmas stockings for Mobile Meals-filling stockings to be given out to clients who are homebound
- We provide volunteer assistance and financial support for group homes
- Readers for Life provides children with their own first book
- We support a local beeping baseball team financially so they can attend the national tournament
- We collect bikes, helmets and locks at Christmas for Salvation Army
- We donate phonic phones that are made by our volunteers to assist in speech therapy at schools – We organize Craft Fairs, garage sales or bake sales as a fundraisers
